(What follows is a letter I sent to Sibelius contact and, Josh with the support team, recommended that I post the letter on this page.) March 14, 2014 RE: Improvements To Sibelius - New Version Development: Get With The Times. Be The First. Hi Guys, I believe the time has come for Sibelius to really become the most useful, the most powerful, the most modern musical notation software on the market. Now, you may ...more »
Sometimes I forget to turn on my midi keyboard when I´m launching sibelius, and if I miss the beginning, then I have to restart the application to be able to recognize this device. I think there can be a better way, like the apps logic or garage band where you are running the application and when plug a new device, it´s automatically recognized.
It is always helpful when one could view the midi-data before exporting a score as a midi-file.
Depending on the input-device and the chosen articulation in can be horrible amount of work to clean things up that the file is usable in a DAW-environment.
I would love to see a close integration between Sibelius and Pro Tools where you can create a score in Sibelius while simultaneously being able, through a special linking system with Pro Tools, tweak the midi notes and the audio playback in Pro Tools (including use of plugins, freedom to choose virtual instruments that play back through Pro Tools, automation, bussing etc). To give an example, you could create a written ...more »
Midi editing in Pro Tools is standard, so it should be exactly the same in Sibelius.
When connected to a midi keyboard or digital piano (73-88 keys) and pedal/foot control, hold down the pedal/foot control to display note lengths/values mapped out across the keys and select what you need and then release your foot to return to note input. This could be a easy and quick way of entering notes with just your midi device and it's foot pedal.
At present an exported Midifile always contains some MIDI controller data (volume, pan etc), it would be preferrable to have the option to filter all MIDI CC data out.
When exporting to another system, these controller messages are of no use anyway - and have to be deleted manually.
Automation Control would be a revolutionary and long needed update for Sibelius. When using any VST such as East West (in cooperation with SSP) dynamics only update volume change per note and not consistently unless you use the dynamic velocity controller, which is highly ineffective and outdated. If you were to implement a way to draw the dynamics instead adding thousands of MIDI volume marks, Sibelius would have the ...more »
There are a lot of great ideas already posted for "scrub" playback options, but at the very least why not simply be able to audition or "scrub" notes by manually moving the green playback line back and forth? It seems like such a simple feature. It's a glaring omission that Sibelius can't do this. Having to put Sibelius in play mode just to hear a chord I entered is really kind of ridiculous. This would be especially ...more »
Although Sibelius emphasize "Human Playback style". Sibelius does not even have common "Piano roll Editor". So, I suggest "Sequencer Overlay". As you know, Standard Notation can not express the actual Velocity, Duration, Start Point, End Point Etc. Sequencer Overlay will strengthen Humanize further. And It is more intuitive and convenient to users. I hope Sibelius will have the MIDI Sequencing ability in the future. If ...more »
In addition to adjusting durations of legato patches, also include notation start times relative to the notated time as a lot of sample libraries are based on starting the following note slightly AHEAD of the beat so that the slur/slide happens first and then the note lands on the notated pitch on the beat. By only adjusting the duration, notes sound like they are a little late and playback sounds off. Also have the ...more »
Midi routing is hard to learn for each program, so if Sibelius and Pro Tools had the same Mixer with identical Midi/Audio routing principals it would be perfect! Not only You learn one and know how to work in PT AND Sibelius, but more: we should be able to exchange templates from each of the two programs to the other. So this also means, that PT should consider a better method for triggering sounds by articulation ...more »
