Multiple instruments per staff

At present, Sibelius allows only one instrument per staff at one time. Although the staff can accommodate up to four "voices" of parallel notation, at present all voices play the same instrument. This proposal is that each "voice" should be independently assignable to different instruments, if required. One application is the classic Soprano/Alto and Tenor/Bass sharing of staves in compact choral notation. Similar needs ...more »

Part Doubling

Example: I have a passage in the first violins which is to be doubled on the flute. Currently I write the passage for the violins, then copy it on to the flute stave. However, the link between the two passages is lost. So if I later make a change to the violins, I have to remember to change it in the flute (and any other instruments that double the violins). I would like to have the ability to copy a *reference* ...more »

Allow enharmonic spelling changes in parts w/o changing in score

For transposing instrumental parts, where the score is notated at concert pitch, it is often desirable to re-spell certain accidentals. However there should be an option to not allow these re-spellings to change the non-transposed spellings in the score. Currently, one must make a new .sib file for these particular parts in order to not adversely effect the full score.

Linked Staves (or Staves with a particular function)

As a professional staff arranger for a premiere music organization, it becomes to difficult to manage the balance between publisher quality music and a chart that is revision-friendly. In order for me to stem away from separate score/part files for appearance demands, I often combine instrument staves for the score to free up real estate and hide the individual instrument parts to "Parts only." This allows me to designate ...more »

Parts Panel/Window (from Sib 4-6)

Reinstate the parts window/panel: It was an efficient, central location with many options, many of which can't be used now without opening a part.

The ability to apply 'Part appearance' changes to a selectable list of parts has been lost unless you open all the parts you'd like to change first.

Housestyle, more separate settings for Score and Parts

It is quite cool to be able to do different settings for score and parts in the house-style. But in my opinion it is not enough. Most commonly a house-style is not done in one shot. It grows... I am still in need to edit a lot of settings like page-sizes, margins, appearance of bar-numbers, page-numbers separately. Example: In a score I would like to see the bar-no. in the middle of every bar but in parts underneath ...more »

show/hide parts in score individually for page- and scroll-view

When right-clicking into a bar in a score one can select where the part should be hidden or shown.

It would be very helpful for all sorts of jobs if one could handle the score page-view and the scroll-view separately which in fact means that some parts are hidden in the page-view but shown in the scroll-view.

Better support for font customisation

Formerly placed with the title 'Improve notation features (2)' part of an earlier thread suggesting systemic changes. There should be a way to export system settings. Local (document) settings can be preserved in a house style but this does not include things like modifications to fonts made at the system level in music fonts. Edits made to music fonts - for example slightly larger copies of existing fonts - don't ...more »

Bugs

Hidden rehearsal marks disappear when multirests are used

Although I’m not convinced that anybody of the Sibelius team ever reads the ideas and bug reports I try to report one … I’d like to have alphabetical rehearsal marks without the letter “I” (A,B, … H, J, K, …) to prevent misunderstandings. I add the automatic numbered marks (containing “I”) and hide the I-mark. But in parts where the hidden mark falls into a multi rest it is ignored and the next mark, which should be ...more »
