IMHO, the string sounds in Sibelius Sounds 7 are still in need of drastic improvement, even though SS7 improved slightly from SS6. They still sound somewhat acrid and metallic, with a buzzy tone. While many other of the instruments are now acceptable, the artificial string tone and poor articulations are dead giveaways when listening to a playback that this computerized performance.
I know this is a big one, but a very careful and thorough adjustment of the dynamics that each instrument sounds at, at every given dynamic level, would be fantastic. In short balance all the instruments better, which would even mean re-recording some instruments (but not all). Some instruments are well balanced when playing slowly, but when speed increases their volume drops (clarinet for example). Some articulations ...more »
Currently it is very difficult to finetune the incremental values of the volume sliders and pan knobs. For instance, getting from a value of 92 to 94 on a volume slider is next to impossible as it keeps jumping by more than 3 or 4 values no matter how gently you move your mouse. The pan knob is also just as difficult to adjust - I propose something akin to the the general 'hold down CTRL +' movement to help with these ...more »
While the selection in Sibelius 7.5 is pretty good, and most of the sounds in the Professional Sound Library are fantastic, I have a few more new ideas for instruments. Some have told me to use a third party VST to supply these additional instruments, but check the comments on this idea for reasons why this is not an acceptable solution in my case. Here are my suggestions for new instruments, as well as videos to demonstrate ...more »
Please give us a mixer that don't requires a microscope to see and handle. Bigger knobs and faders and the abillity to enter numeric values.
Selecting an instrument in the score simultaneously highlights the mixer channel. This would be particularly useful in terms of navigating the mixer in large scores.
Identifying Instruments in the Mixer of a large score distracts from workflow. At the very least it would be helpful for instrument groups to be color coded. Icing on the cake would be the ability to set custom colors in groups, as can be done in Pro-tools.
It would be great to be able to remap pitches arbitrarily, both on a staff basis and on a note-by-note basis. Basically, Sibelius could let you inspect a note and change its sounding pitch to something else entirely, and it should also be possible to write a plug-in that will change the pitch programmatically. The use case would be for retuning notes beyond the limit of the MIDI pitch bend, and it should be an easy ...more »
