Absolute important for publisher...! Please add group-names. The solution might be the following: Add 2 text-fields on the instrument-panel labelled "name in group" and "short name in group". A doubleclick onto a sub-bracket opens a dialogbox where one can enter the full name and a short name of the group, the alignment and whether the inst.name (entered on the instrument-panel) will be left or right of the sub-bracket. ...more »
I know this is a big one, but a very careful and thorough adjustment of the dynamics that each instrument sounds at, at every given dynamic level, would be fantastic. In short balance all the instruments better, which would even mean re-recording some instruments (but not all). Some instruments are well balanced when playing slowly, but when speed increases their volume drops (clarinet for example). Some articulations ...more »
IMHO, the string sounds in Sibelius Sounds 7 are still in need of drastic improvement, even though SS7 improved slightly from SS6. They still sound somewhat acrid and metallic, with a buzzy tone. While many other of the instruments are now acceptable, the artificial string tone and poor articulations are dead giveaways when listening to a playback that this computerized performance.
The most common languages in musical history are intalian, german, french,...,english - in this order. Why not adding those main four languages in the "add instrument-panel" and in the "edit instrument-panel"? Just think about Switzerland, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany.... They all have publishers and customers in different European countries. And the language-packages exist. So replace the check-box with ...more »
This would make things easier...
It is very common to use the mixer to blend all instruments. When you open another/new score all settings are gone if not edited in the instrument itself.
To avoid the double-editing procedure you could add a save-button in the mixer-channel to save the specific setting (vol. pan, vel., fx.) once found into the instrument.
While the selection in Sibelius 7.5 is pretty good, and most of the sounds in the Professional Sound Library are fantastic, I have a few more new ideas for instruments. Some have told me to use a third party VST to supply these additional instruments, but check the comments on this idea for reasons why this is not an acceptable solution in my case. Here are my suggestions for new instruments, as well as videos to demonstrate ...more »
Please add the capability to define user-instrument-families to get more control over autogenerated brackets when starting a score from scratch. A concertband, for example, divides WW into clarinets, double-reed, flutes, saxophones with their own bracket. If necessary the given families could be blocked, so that they cannot be deleted. EDIT: To automize the brackets when starting a score from scratch the instruments ...more »
I know this sounds like something drastic, and it is, but that doesn't mean I'm suggesting scrapping the whole Sibelius program and rebuilding it from scratch... that would be stupid... However, I do propose some serious changes. Andrew Noah Cap mentioned on my "New and Improved Instruments" thread that Sibelius is currently not meeting the needs of its customers, as both the engraving and the playback need serious ...more »
It would be great to have "edit instrument" in the mouse context-menu. It should work as the following: right-click into a staff and select "edit instrument" from the context-menu. The "edit instrument" panel of the corresponding instrument will open to make any change one likes. Especially when editing percussion maps it can be very time-consuming and annoying when one has always to go through all the steps to open ...more »
It's not very user-friendly to have to use the Up- and Down-Buttons in order to put a new instrument to the right place.
I really love that Sibelius put's new orchestral instruments automatically to the right place concerning the usual order of orchestral instruments. But if you don't write for orchestra you have to click on the Up- and Down-Button a thousand time!
If you have a large score in S7.5 (30 or more), I have found that some instruments get grouped together in the mixer. They sometimes aren't even related, for example my Piccolo track is linked to my Snare (b) track. When making MP3s, it makes for a challenge to get the correct level. There should be a feature to allow for groupings defined by the user and not randomly added by Sibelius with no editing capabilities.
Instrument changes break multirests, which doesn't make sense as it's an element "outside" of the musical logic. This makes parts management sometimes hard.
