More features available with the Title Page function, such as templates for performance notes and bios, and a listing of instrumentation for the score.
In a piano score would be very interesting if the dynamics stay centered between the two staves automatically regardless of the distance between them.
The first note on the staff is close to the key signature. When this note has an accidental, it appears as if that flat/sharp is almost part of the key signature. Perhaps have better spacing by default?
There should be a live preview for all house-style changes. When editing text styles, you always have to close the dialog to see the change in your score. Simply add an "apply" button to the dialog or do a live update to your score in the background. Same could be easily applied to all global settings in the document layout panel!
This is a "nice to have"-category. It might be helpful if one could draw/add rules with a numerical adjustment horizontally/vertically where objects would snap to. Especially graphics, but also positioning text and other elements could be done much easier. A global snap to ruler command would enable/disable this feature. To avoid an overlay/irritation this function would only work on objects with the magnetic disabled. ...more »
There are a number of little tweaks I find myself doing each time I open a new score. Whilst I realise I can set up a House Style and load it up every time, I'd rather be able to set these things in Preferences and just have Sibelius open each new score with them automatically.
It's hard to place e.g. block lyrics symmetrically when there's no rulers to show distances to page margins or edges or anything to show distances between block lyrics textboxes. Configurable gridlines would at least be easily implementable helpers.
I have done a few jobs for someone who publishes musicals for elementary school... There was one thing I really was missing. Beside the score and the parts there should be a "booklet-part" where you can specify which part should be shown in free-positionable containers. These containers can vary in size and position. Similar to pages containers are linked together so that the content would flow from one to another. ...more »
The various classes of Line objects in a Sibelius score appear to have two independent properties affecting magnetic layout: (1) whether the Line avoids other objects in the score by displacing itself; (2) whether the Line pushes staves apart during Layout -> Optimize. Just a few classes of Line have both properties (for instance: hairpins, trills, pedals). Most have only (1) and not (2). Some have neither. Nowhere ...more »
This is for engravers and publishers.... Normally a page-footer contains the following: Company logo, GEMA-,ASCAP- etc. logo, Copyright, "Do not copy"-sign, order-no and some more like, maybe, internet-adress etc. Every publisher has a own specific way of layouting the footer. Composers and engravers have to pay attention on this. Why not adding an editor to create/edit/save/load footer content and layout. This ...more »
Many, many values can changed in Sibelius. That's a very good thing, since flexibility is what all professionals need most. Yet very often it is impossible to change values in real decimal steps. Sibelius decides for you, so the first value can be 1.4, the next 1.7 and so on. Not good!!! I just wanted to change the line width first time: I only could choose 0.1 or 0.06, one being to thick, the other to thin. Where are ...more »
When doing cross-staff notes, there are two big problems
1. If there is another voice at the same time, which is in a distance of a 2nd, the notes collapse in the same space.
2. The slurs are just illogical and they don't cross staff, it has to be made manually
