Currently it is very difficult to finetune the incremental values of the volume sliders and pan knobs. For instance, getting from a value of 92 to 94 on a volume slider is next to impossible as it keeps jumping by more than 3 or 4 values no matter how gently you move your mouse. The pan knob is also just as difficult to adjust - I propose something akin to the the general 'hold down CTRL +' movement to help with these ...more »
I'd like to see an improvement of the mixer:
1. The VU meter for instruments relfects midi notes being triggered. That is silly, it should be audio levels coming from the staves played back through virtual instruments.
2. Or at least you should have the option to trigger between midi and audio output.
When selecting new sounds for each stave when using multiple instrument sets, the display is very small and quite sluggish.
This needs to be speeded up and refined.
It should be easy to change MIDI routing as well.
The switching between Mixer displays is somewhat clumsy too. The Mixer is in desperate need of being made to function like a.... Mixer.
Please give us a mixer that don't requires a microscope to see and handle. Bigger knobs and faders and the abillity to enter numeric values.
In the mixer, I can see the value of a three position mute button for some folks. But personally, I find it cumbersome, Anyone else? I would love to disable it. How about a preference setting to allow just normal on/off?
OR a shortcut could be useful, like CTRL + CLICK, that skips the half setting.
IF (a) In Audio Engine Options, "Release device when Sibelius 7.x is in the background" is checked; AND IF (b) Sibelius is in the background (does not have focus) at the moment when the score file is opened THEN the Master Fader will not appear in the Mixer, and cannot be made to appear by clicking the "Show/hide master volume" button. For instance, if one opens a score file by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer, ...more »
Selecting an instrument in the score simultaneously highlights the mixer channel. This would be particularly useful in terms of navigating the mixer in large scores.
When working with Sibelius-sounds adding instruments with their specific sounds is quite easy going and very comfortable. Also a lot of sound-libraries such like EastWest stuff can be handled easily with soundsets. But very often there are no soundsets available for unique, rare or older sound-libs like Forest Kingdom, Colossus or ActionStrings. Also when creating own sounds with NI Kontakt adding those to Sibelius ...more »
If you have a large score in S7.5 (30 or more), I have found that some instruments get grouped together in the mixer. They sometimes aren't even related, for example my Piccolo track is linked to my Snare (b) track. When making MP3s, it makes for a challenge to get the correct level. There should be a feature to allow for groupings defined by the user and not randomly added by Sibelius with no editing capabilities.
In older versions of Sib it was possible to easily reassign playback sounds for each stave from the Mixer. Each stave/channel revealed the instrument assigned to it and allowed that to be changed. This has disappeared in the more recent versions. As an arranger, I miss having the ability to easily reassign different sounds without having to add a new stave to the score, copy the notes into it, audition the results, ...more »
It might be very helpful to be able to create mute-groups in the mixer. A few predefined and some programmable could be clever like
visible only (when focus on staves is used)
family (only brass, ww or strings)
custom 1 to 9 (mute the channels you don't need and click onto a button in a mute-group field while pressing ctrl to save this mute-setting. A simple click would recall the mute-group)
Identifying Instruments in the Mixer of a large score distracts from workflow. At the very least it would be helpful for instrument groups to be color coded. Icing on the cake would be the ability to set custom colors in groups, as can be done in Pro-tools.
