Special barlines splitting multirests.

The new behaviour in 8.7.2 has merit. But consider a section in 7/4 time, which has been 'split' with a dotted barline. The Split Bars function works well. But even if one of the non-splitting barline types is chosen, it still splits a multirest. If this can be made to work properly, perhaps Dashed should be added to the list of non-splitting special barlines. Or new types could be added - splitting-dashed and non-splitting-dashed. ...more »

Plugin format .aax

Hi. I'd love to suggest Sibelius also accepts plugins with the plugin format *aax. The sad story behind this is that Gibson has killed off Cakewalk, the product will neither be sold nor developped anymore. (Please see http://www.cakewalk.com/Gibson-Announcement.) As a user of Sibelius (8.7.2) it was a small step for me to replaye my #1 DAW Cakewalk Sonar by ProTools (12.8.2), but alas, ProTools takes only plugins with ...more »

More Customizable Manuscripts

I have a part time job now creating content for a music education app. A lot of that work is writing different riffs that can be substituted in the app. One measure long. You can see where I'm going. I'd really like to be able to create a one measure long manuscript. It would save me a lot of time on my work. I think other people that come up with riffs they like to save might use it. I wish the manuscripts were ...more »

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks in Sibelius were high on Daniel's list of improvements shortly before the shutters came down on The Old Toy Factory. Michael Ost likened it to HTML, and in a way, it is. For writers of analyses, methods and histories, it would enable authors to write completely within Sibelius, thus obviating a trip to any 3rd party software. So how could it work? Put the text and graphics on a blank page. At the end paragraph ...more »

Quantization

It's great that quantization is available during flexi-time input, but more often I need it after the fact. I've recorded some notes that I thought I was playing evenly, but after listening to it, it has some uneven parts. I want to select a few bars and say "quantize this" to fix the unevenness. Finale has this feature. Every sequencer does. Sibelius should. If you Google this, there is screaming by the Sibelius community ...more »

Bugs

Repeat text breaks multirests

Repeat text is very useful for writing "repeat 2x" or "Segue" or "D.C. al Coda" or whatever at the end of a section. But if there's a multirest, it will break it. In the example below, I want a single 7-bar multirest with Attacca written at the end. If I were using Tempo text to do this, I would expect the multirest to be broken, but using repeat text, I would expect it not to be. Currently this needs to be faked ...more »

Next-Generation notation software innovation

I wanted to bring to your attention an innovative use of new Liquid Crystal 'Paper' displays, which may become the optimal input device for next generation (polychromatic/chromatic) music notation software. Conventional music notation software seems unnecessarily cumbersome with unintuitive, brand-exclusive keyboard shortcuts and nested submenus. Once an easier notation input system becomes available, present iterations ...more »

Misc

Sibelius Accessibility for Screen readers

The accessibility for Screen readers needs to be improved. In the last two years, blind users could use Sibelius by utilizing the screen reader NVDA. In the last year, I encountered, that Sibelius crashes, as soon as I have NVDA loaded. I would greatly appreciate an accessibility feature on Mac OS and the screen reader "Voiceover".

With kind regards

Add Mute Button preference. On/Off vs On/Half/Off

In the mixer, I can see the value of a three position mute button for some folks. But personally, I find it cumbersome, Anyone else? I would love to disable it. How about a preference setting to allow just normal on/off?

OR a shortcut could be useful, like CTRL + CLICK, that skips the half setting.

Bugs

Selection of a passage with keyboard causes return to page 1

I am experiencing a bug on some of my scores. When in the Spread Vertically" or "Pages Vertically" Display Modes. I select a note that is not on page 1. I select a passage with the keyboard (holding shift down + arrow keys) the display will jump to page 1. In addition, if I have a passage selected and I hit "repeat" (R) the display will jump to page 1. Preferences: Score Position. During input and editing: "Follow ...more »
