In a 6/8 measure I can create quadruplets to have a conflict rhythm 6 quavers against 4 quavers. That's nice. I wish to have the same function in a 5/8 measure, to achive the conflict rhythm 5 quavers against 4 quavers. Presently, if I mark all the 5 quavers and chose "quadruplet", Sib takes the first 3 quavers and creates a quadruplet, leaving the remaining 2 quavers unchanged. That's not what I wish. (Actually, that ...more »
I would love to see a Sibelius companion that will allow you to edit your scores on your Android/Apple smartphone or tablet while away from your computer. At my job, I'm allowed to use my smartphone during downtime, but laptops are prohibited, meaning I can't work on my scores while at work. It doesn't need to have all of the bells and whistles that comes with the full version, just a notation editor with playback. ...more »
Gardner Read's "Music Notation - A Manual of Modern Practice" is categorical on the use of minim (half note) rests in 3/4. They're incorrect and should be replaced by two crochet (quarter note) rests (page 99). Elaine Gould's Guide to Music Notation "Behind Bars" is in complete agreement with this rule (page 161). However, Sibelius 6 through to 7.5 does not appear to recognise this notational precept. Not only is it possible ...more »
There are times where one needs to have two notes separated by a rest have their bar line connected, but not the rest of the score. Currently this is an either-or situation - selecting Notations>Beams>Over Rests applies the option to the whole score as an Engraving Rule and selecting individual notes to be different doesn't work. Need a way to select individual notes and apply the beam-over-rest separately.
Formerly placed with the title 'Improve notation features (2)' part of an earlier thread suggesting systemic changes. There should be a way to export system settings. Local (document) settings can be preserved in a house style but this does not include things like modifications to fonts made at the system level in music fonts. Edits made to music fonts - for example slightly larger copies of existing fonts - don't ...more »
I know this sounds like something drastic, and it is, but that doesn't mean I'm suggesting scrapping the whole Sibelius program and rebuilding it from scratch... that would be stupid... However, I do propose some serious changes. Andrew Noah Cap mentioned on my "New and Improved Instruments" thread that Sibelius is currently not meeting the needs of its customers, as both the engraving and the playback need serious ...more »
When using a trill (from 'Lines') it would be great if the trill could be turned on or off for individual voices. For example when notating for a concert band I am using 2 voices on the flute stave. The upper voice needs to trill a series of semibreves (whole notes) while the lower voice is playing crotchets (quarter notes). If I could select the trill, and then adjust which voices it applied to that would allow ...more »
I have had the fortunate circumstance that both my middle and now high school band directors are percussionists. i have arrange/written many pieces during these years that always, when i have them look over it, they constantly have to explain to me why the sibelius way of writing percussion is wrong. then, they have to rewrite it the correct way so i can go back and fix it. this is also a problem because then if i write ...more »
I would like to have the possibility to change Notehead Type directly from the Status Bar, or shown in the inspector (or somewhere..) like in previous version of Sibelius.
Coming back each time you need it to Notation tab in the Ribbon could be annoying.
Sibelius should have a opition to setup a default beam group set to the score before I start editing. This opition could be on the "New Score" opitions.
I think we need a completely different way of inputting drum parts than placing note heads on a staff. We'd need an instrument-specific drum trigger pad for percussions so that all the different articulations for each drum or other percussive instrument would have their own buttons or triggers on the pad. That way you'd skip the hassle of checking if you chose the right notehead for the right placement on the staff and ...more »
A text mode for entering diatonic functions would be great for those of us who don't use roman numeral analysis. This mode would include the special characters (like the D with a slash through it) and the ability to write numbers under the main functions and over eachother next to it.
