I often play my MIDI keyboard to test out variations of a composition. Once I have something I like, I enter the passage with the keyboard. In MuseScore, the MIDI keyboard takes on the sound of whatever instrument is selected (or was last selected), but note entry occurs only by explicitly turning on note entry. In Sibelius, I have to remember to hit ESC each time I test out a part. If I forget, notes get entered into ...more »
Garage Band for iPad has some great playable windows made big enough for multi-touch gestures like playing chords on guitar, bass and piano keyboard.
If the existing fretboard/keyboard windows in Sibelius could be enhanced to include similar functionality, that would be great!
When spacing on the system is tight, Sibelius note spacing rules are poor. For instance, in the attached example (shown immediately after Reset Note Spacing), accidentals and augmentation dots in the lower staff (where there is plenty of room for them) cause irregular spacing in the upper staff, where the extra spacing is not required. This irregular result would not be considered acceptable by professional engravers. ...more »
Use Alt + arrow to jump to note in chord even if not in same instrument voice.
Often need to quickly move to other voices in chord, even if not in same voice, i.e Split Voice. Alt+ arrow does not allow jump to voice other than the one selected.
An option to fill notes "from left to right" (as in Finale) would be great! This is one of the things that hinders me the most in Sibelius. An option for this would be truly wonderful!
This is relevant during mouse input. Could be an option in Preferences (like Duration before Pitch).
When you are in PitchBeforeDuration mode, you can set the input to Grace Notes, but it will not toggle off, either from the keypad or using the mouse.
The input option "Pitch before Duration" is very nice to have for composers like me who are searching for chords as they go. At the moment this is only accessible via Preferences, but it should be a toggle function with shortcut available.
Currently it's not possible to transpose notes with slashes for note heads. If I create a rhythm sheet for guitar and want to copy it to the piano, the notes (slashes) are no longer in the middle of the staff. The command to transpose up or down an octave doesn't work on these notes. The workaround is to change the note heads to regular ones, transpose and change back. This only works if all your notes are slashes or ...more »
Would it be possible to play the notes in and play "click" using your pedal or keyboard key, similar to Finale. I would then just play the notes as slowly as needed and tap to the beats, because I know what I want to play in. This would speed up the input considerably.
*TAP* ta-da *TAP* ta-da-dah *TAP* ta-daaaa-dah etc.
For musicians who use a MIDI keyboard for note entry, it would be a great boon to be able to work the entire note entry from that keyboard instead of using the Keypad for note durations, articulations and accidentals. I guess that it would speed up greatly note entry and reduce errors.
New Comments with "staff capability". Maybe implementing this feature should be not a joke.. but I make a large use of both comments and ideas, and many times I miss the possibility to write music inside a comment.
A comment like "to do: creating a melody with these notes, or with this chord" and a small staff in which i can write the chord or the notes. Less complex than ideas, but a bit more than a text comment.
It would be nice when there was a way to notate expanded cluster-notes correctly instead of messing them up. The official notation is a tree-like note with one top-stem, branching out in several stems with noteheads next to each other underneath.
