Add true ReWire support in Sibelius

I would like to add Sibelius into my studio-evironment to work together with my DAW rather than just playback things via stereo-audio-track.

True rewire means I can use each instrument in a single Midi- and/or audio-track to add audio-plugins, additional midi-data and run the sound-libs in the DAW rather than in Sibelius itself.

Multi-channel playback

Sibelius presently only permits two-channel audio playback (that is, stereo). This significantly limits high-end Sibelius users--composers, arrangers, producers, and performers targeting surround-sound (e.g. 5.1 or 7.1) audio systems, or larger speaker arrays. This is particularly significant with very large VST libraries where different portions of a library (e.g. strings, winds--or different ranks or divisions of ...more »

Bugs

Playback: Fermata bug

During playback a bug can occur under the following circumstances: 1 -- A fermata is used, and the length and/or delay properties are set. 2 -- Two or more notes in the same voice, immediately following the fermata, have the same pitch. 3 -- Some combination of the fermata length, delay, and the current tempo will cause the second note (in the voice[s] with two notes on the same pitch) to either not play at all, or ...more »

Playback staff

Implement a "playback staff," similar to functionality in Notion 4. The playback staff is a separate staff on a score that is used to specify timing for live playback--each touch or tap on a live playback surface (instrument key, computer key, tablet surface) continues playback for the next note on the playback staff. This dramatically simplifies live playback of complex scores--I might use quarter notes for the playback ...more »

Playback: Allow live playback of MIDI Note ON and Note OFF

Existing playback mechanisms in Sibelius, Notion, and many other platforms use user keystrokes to initiate the MINI Note On message--and use the note's length to determine when the Note Off message will be sent. In many forms of music (example: plainchant, Anglican chant, other forms of early choral music) the written note may only suggest the length. In Anglican chant in particular, the written note is held for however ...more »

Playback: Separate Sib Sound Engine as separate process

Sib 7 introduced a very large music library. Terrific idea--poor design. Every single score has to--essentially--reload the engine. Have 20 channels assigned to score A? 24 channels assigned to score B? If you have A in the foreground, and click on B (even by mistake) you have to sit and wait while sounds are loaded. Very large sound libraries (e.g. Hauptwerk, VSL) load in a separate process. You launch that application ...more »

Deep-Six the Ribbon & Give Us Our Menus Back

Wishful thinking? Even though I know the ins and outs of the Ribbon, I don't know that I will ever be as comfortable with it as I could be with menus. It is so much more complicated now. Other professionals I know are constantly nagging me about how much they dislike the ribbon. It would certainly be something that would cause an exciting buzz, and it would probably be the most talked-about upgrade, ever (in a positive ...more »

Redesign the Lines & Text Styles Drop-Down "Menus"

If we have to keep the Ribbon, please redesign the drop-down "menus" for Lines and Text Styles. They are almost impossible to comprehend. They're not divided by system vs. staff anymore, which was very helpful when teaching the program, and logical when using the program. There is also way too much information in them - especially the text styles - way too much text in there to figure out what box you need to choose. ...more »

System Lines - Vertical Positions

I've never understood why we are able to manipulate system text styles into appearing at very specific system object positions, but we can't do the same for system lines. There should be a way to edit a system line's vertical position, so that we can tell Sibelius to automatically put a system line at very specific system object positions (or not), just like we can do in Edit > Text Styles for System Text.
