Ukulele is such a common instrument, and there is no ukulele tab option in sibelius first 2018.7. (Yet there is sitar and many, many other instruments.) I suggest either adding Ukulele tab and chords, OR let us program in how many strings and what their tunings are. This instrument could then be used for any string instrument. Or at least let us pay 5 bucks for this added instrument. There is a huge price difference between ...more »
After the changing of an instrument on a staff upon the original instrument returning, an exported MusicXML file does not reflect the correct transposition changes. For example. I input Ex 1 into Sibelius. I then export this as a MusicXML file. I then open this MusicXML file back into Sibelius and get Ex 2. The C Clarinet is now transposed incorrectly. There is also a B flat key signature. upon inspection of the MusicXML ...more »
Since Sibelius 8, when adding an instrument, the prompt for instruments when you search does not show the entire text, but just a portion of it followed by ... . Previous versions showed a longer instrument name (so it was easier to differentiate "Trumpet" and "Trumpet [no key]"
I find Sibelius to be the best notation software, but I feel that there is one important feature missing. For example: When I need four horn staves and want to number them, I have to write the staff names like this: Horn 1 in F Horn 2 in F Horn 3 in F Horn 4 in F This doesn't look very good, because it is very hard to read if there are lots of instruments (for example in an orchestral score). I would like to have ...more »
If you have a large score in S7.5 (30 or more), I have found that some instruments get grouped together in the mixer. They sometimes aren't even related, for example my Piccolo track is linked to my Snare (b) track. When making MP3s, it makes for a challenge to get the correct level. There should be a feature to allow for groupings defined by the user and not randomly added by Sibelius with no editing capabilities.
Instrument changes break multirests, which doesn't make sense as it's an element "outside" of the musical logic. This makes parts management sometimes hard.
Working with Sib. 7.5 and Sibelius 7 Sounds. Starting a new score. Adding the instruments. I wish that some instruments can play intonations which are usual in Jazz. So the orchestra body I select from the dropdown menu "Orchestral instruments". Then I turn to those where I wish Jazz intonation, select them from "Jazz Instruments". It turns out that the instruments I select by this menu are the same as the "Orchestral", ...more »
It would be great to have "edit instrument" in the mouse context-menu. It should work as the following: right-click into a staff and select "edit instrument" from the context-menu. The "edit instrument" panel of the corresponding instrument will open to make any change one likes. Especially when editing percussion maps it can be very time-consuming and annoying when one has always to go through all the steps to open ...more »
I know this sounds like something drastic, and it is, but that doesn't mean I'm suggesting scrapping the whole Sibelius program and rebuilding it from scratch... that would be stupid... However, I do propose some serious changes. Andrew Noah Cap mentioned on my "New and Improved Instruments" thread that Sibelius is currently not meeting the needs of its customers, as both the engraving and the playback need serious ...more »
While the selection in Sibelius 7.5 is pretty good, and most of the sounds in the Professional Sound Library are fantastic, I have a few more new ideas for instruments. Some have told me to use a third party VST to supply these additional instruments, but check the comments on this idea for reasons why this is not an acceptable solution in my case. Here are my suggestions for new instruments, as well as videos to demonstrate ...more »
It's not very user-friendly to have to use the Up- and Down-Buttons in order to put a new instrument to the right place.
I really love that Sibelius put's new orchestral instruments automatically to the right place concerning the usual order of orchestral instruments. But if you don't write for orchestra you have to click on the Up- and Down-Button a thousand time!
Identifying Instruments in the Mixer of a large score distracts from workflow. At the very least it would be helpful for instrument groups to be color coded. Icing on the cake would be the ability to set custom colors in groups, as can be done in Pro-tools.
