I switched from Finale and I very much appreciate Sibelius's pitch-before-duration setting for note entry (Preferences > Note Input > Specify pitch, then duration) because that is my "native language." 🙂 But there's a glitch when adding TIES to CHORDS with DOTTED RHYTHM using STEP-TIME entry. Specifically, the tie is added only to the bottom note of the chord. To reproduce, make sure pitch-before-duration is on and ...more »
Why Sibelius doesn't offer a PROPER solution for let vibrate ties that works without faking & plugins etc.?
In fact only Lilypond has nailed this problem. You can modify the shape of the l.v. ties as in regular ties and if you have chords with l.v. ties you can tweak each one of them (length, curvature etc.)
If you input a note and tie as in Ex1 and then select the note and press R for repeat you get Ex2. If you select both notes in Ex3 and press R you get Ex3 you get Ex4. Clearly this is inconsistent and therefore one of these is a bug. These situations should not be confused with when the whole bar is selected when both situations result in the tie being copied. This is then consistent and I think correct (the tie is part ...more »
Currently, Sibelius does not allow you to create ties between notes in an arpeggiated chord to the full blocked chord, as shown to the left. The Sibelius Reference Guide (excerpt in 2nd attachment) admits this can only be done by manually by resizing the ties. However, when the score is changed, Sibelius does not automatically resize or move the ties magnetically with the score. Arpeggiated chords are used extensively ...more »
When hiding the rhythm stems in guitar tablature, this has the unfortunate side-effect of hiding the ties as well. Ties are of course 'rhythm related' so it's only doing its job in that regard, but it makes interpreting the Tab awkward and I find myself substituting these with slurs in the Tab to compensate. Alternatively Some publishers show the subsequent tied numbers as (10) etc and some leave them out altogether, ...more »
Ties look great between standard note heads, but are too close to slash noteheads, and there ought to be an option to "adjust space above notehead" per notehead type.
Also, ties do not look good when centered over the middle of slash noteheads, and should be moved to be centered over the end of the slashes.
I noticed that there are plenty of options for customizing the look of slurs, but when these options are changed, ties and slurs end up looking inconsistent to each other.
For example, if I want really thin slurs, I can make them really thin, but ties end up being noticeably thicker than slurs, which doesn't look good.
The filter desperately needs ties as an option. And the advanced filter needs notes with ties. One definitely should be able to edit all ties in an selected area at once. There should be a preset possibility for ties in the engraving rules which defines the height of ties. Not only the maximum height, but also a fixed height for all ties as is common with major publishers. You never see short ties which are more flat ...more »
There should be a way to make a legitimate tie appear dashed with evenly spaced dashes rather than faking it with a dashed slur.
When two or more notes are tied together, alterations made to the first note in the series are not carried through to the rest of the notes in the series. Therefore, extra effort must be made to change all notes individually or to select all the notes as a group before making the alteration. By definition, with notes that are tied together, what happens to the first note should apply to the others. This is currently not ...more »
