While the built-in sounds are fair enough for most common usage users come to a certain point where they want to expand their library. For some libraries on the market are very good soundsets available but also there are a lot of sound-engines where no sets are available at all. Especially the add-on libraries for the Kontakt 5 or Kontakt Player 5. (like Era Medieval Legends, ActionStrings, SessonStrings, etc...) ...more »
Click & drag mouse/touchpad notation: (touch and drag for windows 8 as well) Click and hold on the desired position on the stave and a horizontal pop-up list of note values appears to the right. Whilst holding the mouse button down, move the mouse pointer along the horizontal pop-up, hover mouse over the desired value such as a crotchet and let go to input that note and value. Other values such as naturals, sharps, ...more »
When connected to a midi keyboard or digital piano (73-88 keys) and pedal/foot control, hold down the pedal/foot control to display note lengths/values mapped out across the keys and select what you need and then release your foot to return to note input. This could be a easy and quick way of entering notes with just your midi device and it's foot pedal.
It would be very nice to have an iOS app to complement the MacBook keyboard without numeric pad and to have all the functionality of the keypad window that shows the functions of the keypad on an iOS device screen. On iPad it would be nice to have a stave that you could tap on a place on the stave to make Sibelius input a note or rest (or any other notation element) in the current edit point. Additionally, the whole ...more »
The input option "Pitch before Duration" is very nice to have for composers like me who are searching for chords as they go. At the moment this is only accessible via Preferences, but it should be a toggle function with shortcut available.
It might be clever if one has to add a lot of similar articulations after, lets say, scanning, that one has to select the specific articulation only once and then can add thoses to notes with only mouse-clicks. (A second click onto the same note would delete the articulation)
This could be enabled/disabled via shortcut.
Helps a lot when proof-reading or correcting scanned scores.
New Comments with "staff capability". Maybe implementing this feature should be not a joke.. but I make a large use of both comments and ideas, and many times I miss the possibility to write music inside a comment.
A comment like "to do: creating a melody with these notes, or with this chord" and a small staff in which i can write the chord or the notes. Less complex than ideas, but a bit more than a text comment.
Would it be possible to play the notes in and play "click" using your pedal or keyboard key, similar to Finale. I would then just play the notes as slowly as needed and tap to the beats, because I know what I want to play in. This would speed up the input considerably.
*TAP* ta-da *TAP* ta-da-dah *TAP* ta-daaaa-dah etc.
An option to fill notes "from left to right" (as in Finale) would be great! This is one of the things that hinders me the most in Sibelius. An option for this would be truly wonderful!
This is relevant during mouse input. Could be an option in Preferences (like Duration before Pitch).
Garage Band for iPad has some great playable windows made big enough for multi-touch gestures like playing chords on guitar, bass and piano keyboard.
If the existing fretboard/keyboard windows in Sibelius could be enhanced to include similar functionality, that would be great!
I'm an organist at a church with a three manual and pedal pipe organ which has been "midi-ied" and which can both transmit and receive midi data on all four keyboards. The top manual, the "swell," is hard-wired to send and receive midi data on midi channel 1. The middle manual, the "great," sends and receives on channel 2. The bottom manual, the "choir" is set to channel 3, and the pedals send and receive on midi channel ...more »
