Allow Sibelius to sing

For vocal staves, Sibelius playback should synthesize the sung lyrics in parallel with other instruments playing normally. This would be of immense benefit to choral directors/composers, and in the production of choir rehearsal tracks.

I would hope that Sibelius could achieve a better quality than the "Virtual Singer" component of "Harmony Assistant".

automatically add slurs to notes when text melismatic

It is a common rule that a slur is attached to notes when the lyrics are melismatic.

Being that one will always have to do so, why not implement a feature to add slurs automatically. Sure, it should be possible to enable/disable this function in the preferences or where-ever it supposed to be.

Please note I wrote syllabic but meant melismatic. I have changed this on 25-01-2013

Block lyrics on Blank page needed

I'd like to have a text style ready for typing block lyrics on a blank page. Sometimes all the music fits on one page but the lyrics for 2nd verse and so on don't. So I'd need to have block lyrics for a blank page to have the same text style and formatting options. This is very usual with songbooks that the following verses are on a separate page with no music on it.

MusicXML export of multiverse lyrics bad

When the Sibelius built-in MusicXML exporter processes a score with multi-verse lyrics, it produces MusicXML output which few other applications (other than Finale) can import correctly. There are two distinct problems. Problem 1: For each [lyric] item in exported MusicXML, Sibelius attaches an attribute entitled "number" looking something like this: number="part1verse1" where every other MusicXML exporter I have ...more »

UTF-8 Byte-Order-Mark not recognised

Many applications, when saving plain-text files encoded in UTF-8, prefix the file with a Byte Order Mark (BOM). In UTF-8, the BOM consists of three bytes, expressed in hexadecimal as EF, BB, BF. When opening a plain-text file, a Unicode-aware application is supposed to recognise the BOM at the beginning of the file, treat it as a flag that the file is encoded in UTF-8 (rather than, say, ISO 8859-1 or Windows CP1252), ...more »

Plugins lose text styling

Certain plug-ins, when copying text, lose text styling (e.g. bold/italic) previously applied from the Text tab of the ribbon. For instance, the "Smarten Quotes" plug-in, when applied to lyrics which have been styled italic, converts the syllables with quotes to regular (non-italic), leaving the other syllables in their original italic. Another example is the "Explode" function: if applied to staves having italicised ...more »

Lock spacing for tight-fitting lyrics

Sometimes I want to have positions locked so that the spacing does NOT change when lyrics are typed in. This of course means that lyrics will not always be under the right notes, but that is a convention used in many scores such as hymnals to save on page space. It can look a lot neater too, especially if rhythms are more complex or there are lots of notes in the bar/measure. A related option would be to apply one size ...more »
