This is a "nice to have"-category. It might be helpful if one could draw/add rules with a numerical adjustment horizontally/vertically where objects would snap to. Especially graphics, but also positioning text and other elements could be done much easier. A global snap to ruler command would enable/disable this feature. To avoid an overlay/irritation this function would only work on objects with the magnetic disabled. ...more »
Currently, Sibelius does not allow you to create ties between notes in an arpeggiated chord to the full blocked chord, as shown to the left. The Sibelius Reference Guide (excerpt in 2nd attachment) admits this can only be done by manually by resizing the ties. However, when the score is changed, Sibelius does not automatically resize or move the ties magnetically with the score. Arpeggiated chords are used extensively ...more »
The various classes of Line objects in a Sibelius score appear to have two independent properties affecting magnetic layout: (1) whether the Line avoids other objects in the score by displacing itself; (2) whether the Line pushes staves apart during Layout -> Optimize. Just a few classes of Line have both properties (for instance: hairpins, trills, pedals). Most have only (1) and not (2). Some have neither. Nowhere ...more »
Sometimes, a combination of system text and magnetic layout can cause the "optimize staff spacing" function to create large gaps in grand staves. Whilst this seems like an unlikely combination of events (and there is a workaround by switching off magnetic layout on the system text) it does happen often enough to be annoying and consistently enough to be considered a bug.
It would be nice if the Inspector would show what the current status of Magnetic Layout was. For instance, if you have switch Magnetic Layout off for one object, could that show in the Inspector. It would be helpful when looking at objects that have been changed (or not). Perhaps even make it searchable in a filter ("objects for which Magnetic Layout is not Default"). Just a thought.
Sibelius binds the value of a glissando to the starting note value - which is great when you want divisions that work in the basic mathematics of it's structures. In US parlance - a half note, or a doted half note glissando to another note is easy. But what if you want a glissando the length of a half note tied to a 16th note going to the remain dotted 8th note? Irregular values for glissandi are a chore or worse impossible. ...more »
When applying wavy arpeggio lines in front of chords you have to manually pull the chord away from the bar line to make room for the line and move the line to avoid hitting accidentals Ex1. If one copies this bar all your hard work is undone Ex2 or Ex2b. Surely the magnetic concept could be applied to these lines so that their behaviour is more manageable. Also the length of the line should always adjust to the extremity ...more »
EDITED IN: I would like to be able to use a Keyboard Shortcut to turn Magnetic Layout on/off for ML on not just Custom Symbols, but on any objects.
After creating a custom graphic and importing it into Symbols, every time I use it I must right-click to turn off ML.
There are workarounds I know (put into Ideas with ML off), but this is my Feature Request nonetheless.
