Ribbon: Layout, Sizing

If we're stuck with the ribbon, make it configurable.

Align the text so it's easier to scan for items. Justified Menus are very easy to read by contrast.

Make the pictures scalable. They are huge and inconsistently sized, requiring a larger, more difficult area to search.

Make the small configuration buttons at the bottom of sections larger and easier to click.

Let us completely hide the ribbon, remember true "full screen"?

Many of us like to work in true full screen mode, as was possible in earlier versions. That is no longer possible as you can't completely hide the ribbon or the bar at the bottom. Before you could hide EVERYTHING so that only the score was in view. For people using Sibelius daily this is ideal as shortcuts are the quickest way to work.

Ribbon or old Menu as an option in Preferences!

I want to make a proposal on the "Ribbon":

To added as an option in the preferences of the user, uses the "Ribbon" OR the old "Menu".

Or the user, uses the "Ribbon" AND the old "Menu".

I think this very simple addition to Sibelius 7, will make it even more useful and beloved score writing software ever!

Fully adjustable user interface

I would like to have complete control over the ribbon with tool dialogues that I can rip off as i need them and keep them in the workspace instead of all this switching around. The ability to preserve the workspace would also be useful as pointed out elsewhere in this forum. Rather than taking MS Word as the model, I wish they had used Photoshop.

Standard keyboard shortcut for resizing text.

On my Mac, in every other application I can select text and instantly resize using Command and +/-.

Sibelius 7 introduced improvements to the text handling, but to resize text we still have to find the text tab in the ribbon, then click up or down or enter a new value, which is far slower.

Refine the Ribbon and Galleries

I've not given up yet! There's a lot of scope for cutting down the Ribbon and Galleries to waste less space and make them easier and clearer to navigate. Most of the graphics could go from the Ribbon. Layout and Appearance tabs could probably be combined - there's little logical justification for what goes in which. Tabs and sub-menus should open on mouse-over, not requiring a click. All Plugins should be in one gallery ...more »

Keyboard navigation in ribbon is too slow

The ribbon, when controlled with keyboard by pressing Ctrl, doesn't respond to keystrokes when processing the last one. I was using a MacBook2,1 that's perfectly suitable for writing scores with Sibelius 7 but I always have to slow down to use the ribbon with keyboard. It's very annoying since it distracts me from my fast-paced workflow. Keyboard buffer for Ribbon requested! Update: Just got a new Retina MacBook this ...more »

Allow selecting menu items with keyboard in ribbon drop menus

When you open up for example the filter list with keyboard pressing ctrl once, then H for Home and F,T for Filter, it would only be reasonable to allow the user to select a menu item by typing the first letters of its title (e.g. "cho" for Chord symbols or "rehe" for rehearsal marks). It bugs me that some of the functions in the ribbon are completely accessible without the arrow keys but all the dropdown menus lack this ...more »

Ribbon search should execute commands

When I use the ribbon search to find a command, the default action when pressing enter (or clicking the search result) should (optionally) be executing the command, not revealing it in the dock. Also, the reveal function should ignore mouse placement when clicking the search result opens a dropdown list where the mouse cursor is.

Ribbon Search Results

Clean up the search results:

- make the searched-for item bold, NOT its path

- remove all the white space caused by one result having a description

- Make the descriptions pop up when hovered over so it's a simple, readable list.

The descriptions could probably even stay if the whitespace were eliminated and the path (in bold) and item were on a single line.
