While the selection in Sibelius 7.5 is pretty good, and most of the sounds in the Professional Sound Library are fantastic, I have a few more new ideas for instruments. Some have told me to use a third party VST to supply these additional instruments, but check the comments on this idea for reasons why this is not an acceptable solution in my case. Here are my suggestions for new instruments, as well as videos to demonstrate ...more »
I know this sounds like something drastic, and it is, but that doesn't mean I'm suggesting scrapping the whole Sibelius program and rebuilding it from scratch... that would be stupid... However, I do propose some serious changes. Andrew Noah Cap mentioned on my "New and Improved Instruments" thread that Sibelius is currently not meeting the needs of its customers, as both the engraving and the playback need serious ...more »
In older versions of Sib it was possible to easily reassign playback sounds for each stave from the Mixer. Each stave/channel revealed the instrument assigned to it and allowed that to be changed. This has disappeared in the more recent versions. As an arranger, I miss having the ability to easily reassign different sounds without having to add a new stave to the score, copy the notes into it, audition the results, ...more »
The Sibelius 7 Sounds installer on Mac OS writes the file-system path of the sample library installation into a file called "Sibelius 7 Sounds.xml" in folder "Libraries" at: /Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius Sounds/Libraries/ But if the user has chosen an installation location on a file-system volume whose name contains XML reserved characters (such as ampersand), then the sounds installer fails to encode the ...more »
The Sibelius 7 Sounds manual lists a layout of six or eight cajon samples in the percussion library. But only two can be accessed within Sibelius, and they are mapped to entirely the wrong keys in the wrong octave.
Fix the sample mapping to match what it says in the owners manual. Find the missing samples and enable them.
When opening scores from other composers Sibelius asks whether or not to change the playback-configuration.
It would be also great to get a notification when sounds/plugins are missing, listing the affected staves and the plugins + sounds that are missing.
At the moment it is very time-consuming to recover scores and finding replacements.
When I place a crescendo (hairpin) over a note containing a tie across two measures, the sound volume abruptly drops when playback reaches the second measure. This problem has existed at least since Sibelius 7.0 and continues in Sibelius 7.5. I have encountered it with the flute instrument sample, but not with all instruments.
Allow strings and woodwinds to play long notes without vibrato. Right now a short not is played without vibrato and a long note plays vibrato. This adds dissonance, and is inappropriate for many types of performance practice. I want a way to control vibrato either in the mixer or more ideally in the score.
Midi routing is hard to learn for each program, so if Sibelius and Pro Tools had the same Mixer with identical Midi/Audio routing principals it would be perfect! Not only You learn one and know how to work in PT AND Sibelius, but more: we should be able to exchange templates from each of the two programs to the other. So this also means, that PT should consider a better method for triggering sounds by articulation ...more »
In addition to the vast sound library that Sibelius offers, I would like to propose that the software should include additional sounds such as: an accordion/bandoneon set, additional woodwind instruments (such as bass saxophone, Japanese wind instruments, Latin-American instruments and oboe d'amore), additional brass instruments (such as a cimbasso and contrabass trombone), additional string instruments (such as a Koto, ...more »
Multiple trills in Sibelius 7 sounds results in garbage on playback. The trills do not terminate after the note ends and make the following note or notes trill. After two or three trills the trill then continues in all following notes for about 4 bars.
It would be great to be able to assign different playback sounds to different voices within a stave. For example I frequently make practice recordings of SA/TB music, and would love to be able to assign a different voice (and volume level) to the Sops to that of the Altos, without having to split out the music into S/A/T/B.
