Positioning of Rehearsal marks

Please enable the user to make different positioning-settings of rehearsal-marks when they are at the beginning of a line.

All publishers I am working for are placing the rehearsalmark above a clef rather than next to it.

Why not setting this up in the rehearsalmark - panel with 2 settings - default and "when at the beginning of a new line"

Ribbon: Layout, Sizing

If we're stuck with the ribbon, make it configurable.

Align the text so it's easier to scan for items. Justified Menus are very easy to read by contrast.

Make the pictures scalable. They are huge and inconsistently sized, requiring a larger, more difficult area to search.

Make the small configuration buttons at the bottom of sections larger and easier to click.

Bugs

Erase background obscuring text when printing

When text crosses a barline, it is useful to make ["erase"] a space in the barline for the text to cross. Up to Sib 7 I used whitespace tif's for this but with Sib 7 I changed my method to using the typgraphic controls in the inspector. I now select the text / select Text Frame from the Inspector, give the frame a little extra height and select the [vertical] alignment. Then I select erase background. This all ...more »

Redesign the Lines & Text Styles Drop-Down "Menus"

If we have to keep the Ribbon, please redesign the drop-down "menus" for Lines and Text Styles. They are almost impossible to comprehend. They're not divided by system vs. staff anymore, which was very helpful when teaching the program, and logical when using the program. There is also way too much information in them - especially the text styles - way too much text in there to figure out what box you need to choose. ...more »

Features

house-style changes live preview

There should be a live preview for all house-style changes. When editing text styles, you always have to close the dialog to see the change in your score. Simply add an "apply" button to the dialog or do a live update to your score in the background. Same could be easily applied to all global settings in the document layout panel!

Features

double click text of lines to edit

It would be very handy and intuitive to be able to edit i.e. 1st/2nd ending lines by double-clicking and simply entering text. Usually you have to create custom line styles to create a "1.-x." and "on cue" ending. Same would apply to rit. or accel. lines. There is a bunch of neat presets for it, but with this simple text-entry trick, you could save a lot of time looking for the right preset!

Features

Part-specific headers and footers

Sibelius needs a user-friendly capability to create headers and footers (i.e., similar to word processing software such as Microsoft Word). Header and footer feature should allow parts to have different, part-specific header/footer text that is not linked to the Full Score header/footer text. At present, if the song title (or any other information) is added to the header/footer of each page of the Full Score, all those ...more »

Text-style saved from ribbon into housestyle

When doing a layout I guess most users are editing dif. text ie. title etc with the text-properties in the ribbon rather than manipulating the entries in the house-style dialogbox being that they see the changes directly and can adjust the ie. size etc. until it fits their needs. Why not adding a save-button in/at (never been sure) the ribbon - text so that they can save their changes into the house-style either as a ...more »

Text attached to measures

While working on parts I encountered some trouble while layouting. Whenever text is attached to notes it can cause an overlay which is solved in a really weird way by the magnetic layout.

It would be a real improvement when one could asign text to measures with clear positioning (ie. assigned to left, center, right or centered above a barline)

beside the given capability to attach text to notes or a system.

Features

Rulers on blank page

When putting text on blank pages, such as a title page, there are no rulers available, so it is very difficult to coordinate the text locations on the title pages on the score and parts, for example. It would be great if the Inspector would reveal the physical location of the text objects on the page, so it would be easy to coordinate the positions of the text objects.

Features

Standard keyboard shortcut for resizing text.

On my Mac, in every other application I can select text and instantly resize using Command and +/-.

Sibelius 7 introduced improvements to the text handling, but to resize text we still have to find the text tab in the ribbon, then click up or down or enter a new value, which is far slower.

Control over Text style hierachies is needed

We typography-oriented notators need the text style hierarchy to be visible and editable, e.g. you cannot create a blank-page text style from a staff/system anchored text style. And also, it's quite hard to change a system-anchored text style to a staff-anchored one (or even creating a new style based on an old style but change the anchoring.
