Formerly placed with the title 'Improve notation features (2)' part of an earlier thread suggesting systemic changes. There should be a way to export system settings. Local (document) settings can be preserved in a house style but this does not include things like modifications to fonts made at the system level in music fonts. Edits made to music fonts - for example slightly larger copies of existing fonts - don't ...more »
I think it is time the developers turned their attention to the notation features of this programme. I am not talking about all those avante garde things, this is just the basic set of requirements for people producing regular scores and songs. this list includes some kinks in the program but the moderators in this forum tend to be a bit heavy-handed so pick them up in features and make up your own mind. 1. The ability ...more »
I recently noticed a bug in the transposition by key function of Sib 7. The transpose by key option sounds like the simplest option there is when transposing a part or whole of a piece but it proved to be anything but. The score i was working on was a medium sized orchestral score but with frequent modulation and it was in attempting to run this function on a selected passage that the problems began. First, it was ...more »
When applying a tempo equation [metric modulation] between a pair of multirests the text breaks the rest so rather than having 8+8 we may end up with 7+1+8 or 8+1+7 depending on where the equation is situated. We may try to surreptitiously copy an equation from another location and paste it in the correct location but as soon as anything else is changed on the page it reverts back to the broken multirests. What is more, ...more »
Perhaps not as a direct reincarnation but as a locking handle that can be used to join slurs together for complex shapes. If the slurs could adopt to their new state with a unified line thickness so the ends don't taper at the connecting joins, that would make my day.
Alternatively just include a pen tool a la Illustrator so we can draw our own custom lines with beziers and splines.
For grandstaff works requiring extra staves including those with ossia passages the CTRL+SHIFT+UP/DOWN command does not work properly. If the notes have been placed on a stave below the parent staff using this command does not return them to the parent staff but sends them instead to the top staff in the part. If that's an ossia staff or an additional higher keyboard staff, that's where the music goes to. It skips ...more »
Double clicking a file in windows explorer or clicking a file to open from the start menu both opens the file and sends the file to the default printer. Only opening the file from the sibelius quick start menu opens the file without printing. Thought it might be a windows problem but after diagnostics there is no change.
In addition to the written tutorials how about a series of how to videos for beginners through to advanced. Subjects from basic setting of score to advanced features regarding notation, playback and media mixing. Adobe have "product evangelists" - hate that phrase but I have learned things from them nonetheless.
The ability to assign vibrato [designated by pitch width, frequency, velocity and speed] would add a rich dimension to strings. I see this as similar to the trill. The sign is the wiggly line. String players differentiate between the fast vibrato [narrow wiggly line] and slow vibrato [wide wiggly line] - these options would find a home.
The ability to add accelerando and decelerando on trills [irrespective of the main beat tempo] would give a more lively playback.
How about unlimited technical support for current versions of Sibelius. Problems don't end in the first year of use but the free service does.
When text crosses a barline, it is useful to make ["erase"] a space in the barline for the text to cross. Up to Sib 7 I used whitespace tif's for this but with Sib 7 I changed my method to using the typgraphic controls in the inspector. I now select the text / select Text Frame from the Inspector, give the frame a little extra height and select the [vertical] alignment. Then I select erase background. This all ...more »
