Similarly to finale, a bit more of choice in setting up lines would be interesting. E.g. features such as choose a different text strings for continuation, abbreviated version, and use both text and symbols in the same line. Also having the arrow size independent of the line thickness would be more elegant. Also, it would be very helpful if the shape of the line could be any symbol in the chart - not just the 4 wavy ...more »
It's normal to use other page sizes than the ones in the menu. Usually dtp programs allow to add these settings into their menus, so that it's easier to choose a custom size - or they read them from the system settings, e.g. like Acrobat.
It would be very handy if sibelius would also allow for custom page sizes to be added to the menu, and/or add these custom sizes from the system definitions.
I would suggest one or both these options:
- let manuscript control the X offset of accidentals
- improve the rules for spacing between accidentals in chords, so that chords with quartertones aren't as tight as chords with half-tones.
When extending lyric lines, the y value of the end point is always 4. Since the standard position for lyric lines is -6, these have always to be corrected when extended by hand.
Sibelius only allows for a text string as a fixed element. If text fields would be editable, many lines would be unecessary to create. This applies to the text fields at start and middle, and the relevant parameters. Also, a text field at the end of a line would be useful. As a reminder, by adding the feature to erase background, many copies of text styles were avoided. Doing the same for many other parameters in many ...more »
When going through the drop-down menu to create a new text, the last panes with the textstyles aren't controlled by keys, in contrary to the previous panes.
System texts can be moved vertically - in both first, 2nd, and other vertical repetitions of the same text. Sometimes in modern music is necessary to move vertically the time signatures, to avoid collisions. For now it's necessary to make several steps to achieve this: hide the original time signatures, make a new text, position it, ...
All these steps can be avoided, if the texts have the function already.
The parameter "Extra spaces between groups of staves" in the engraving rules is very handy, but it doesn't work if the lowest instrument of a group is hidden.
When filtering only for bar rests with the advanced filter, the checkbox for "Find rests" must be switched off. But when repeating this search, this box is on.
This bug has been there since version 1, as I recall.
A small detail: when working in the symbol chart, it would be easier to navigate with the keys would behave in the following way: - home / end - go into the first/last character of the current chart line - ctrl+ home/end - go to the first/last character of the chart (currently done by the keys home/end) - when at the end/beginning of a line, the right/left keys would go to the next/previous line Also, when opening the ...more »
Since version 1 line styles haven't been updated. So for it's only possible to use predefined line styles with normal, invisible, dashed, and 4 variations of trill. Since the 4 trills all depend on the trill symbols, why not allow to create other line styles by using other symbols? Since Sibelius doesn't allow to design shapes, at least it would be possible to create a graphic somewhere else and import it as a symbol, ...more »
In modern music or analysis examples it can happen that cross-staff music goes over several staves. Expanding the sibelius' feature from adjacent staves to more staves would be a big help.
Extending this feature to cross-staff between different instruments would also be a plus - although this notation does occur a very rarely.
